@CASzarek on Writing 'Chance Collision; (Crossing Forces) #Romance #Suspense #AmReading

Who designed the cover?
The fantastic head of art at my publisher, Totally Bound, Emmy! I adore her and her work!
Who is your publisher?
Totally Bound Publishing. They are freakin’ awesome. I adore everything about them, and my lovely editor, Rebecca!
Why did you choose to write this particular book?
I fell for Pete when I was writing Cole and Andi’s story (Collision Force—Crossing Forces Book One) And I knew he needed to have an HEA. But truth be told, I knew WHO his HEA was when I first wrote her very small scene (just a mention, really) in Collision Force as well. Also, there’s that factor of him not leaving me alone until I started to write his story.
Will you write others in this same genre?
Yes, I see at least 5 more books in this series. Book 3, Calculated Collision (Lee and Nate’s story) will be out June 6, 2014 and I am almost done with book 4, Collision Control (Jared and Mel’s story). I know WHO the next two couples are after that.
How much of the book is realistic?
Well, it’s romantic suspense and I have a background in law enforcement and security, as well as access to two police depts through my FT job, so when I have questions, I ask my cop friends. I also have a friend who is former FBI, so she helps me A LOT. I strive to make them credible and believable. So, I would like to think the police procedure stuff is accurate and realistic.
How important do you think villains are in a story?
Very. They drive the story as much as the hero/heroine. I write nasty villains. I love them all in a way, though.
What are your goals as a writer?
To keep doing what I’m doing. Keep writing and getting the books out there. Gain a loyal HUGE following. Have readers who love my characters as much as I do.
Have you started another book yet?
Yes! I am currently working on a few things. Book 4 of the Crossing Forces Series, Collision Control and Book 2 of the Highland Secrets Trilogy, The Fae Ring. I’m always writing SOMETHING. And I have a list of characters, in several series waiting for their turn.
Do you have any advice for writers?
If you want this, if you REALLY want it. NEVER, EVER give up. Writing is hard. It’s work. And rejection will happen if you’re going a publishing or agent route. You have to fight, and if you do, you will succeed.
What do you do to unwind and relax?
This is a myth in my life! LOL! Well, I work 60 hours a week and then I write, and I am generally really busy. When I DO get time to relax, it’s hard for me to SIT STILL and let go. But I do enjoy reading and I watch WAY too much TV. Thank GOD for the DVR.

Crossing Forces series:

Small Town Texas doesn’t always mean small time crime.
Welcome to Antioch, population fifty thousand.
With a police department full of detectives and officers who are good at what they do, throw in the occasional FBI agent, and the bad guy doesn’t have a shot, no matter how big the crime.
They work together and fight together. Relationships will be forged and changed along the twists and turns.
When fate intervenes, love and happiness can be found in unlikely places.

Crossing Forces by C.A. Szarek

This is book two in the Crossing Forces series
Vowing to protect her had nothing to do with feelings.
Detective Pete Crane catches a new shooting case and considers it business-as-usual. But when the lead witness is the Chief of Police’s fiery assistant, he never anticipated she’d challenge him—personally and professionally. Especially while under his protection.
Little do they know, the shooting she and her grandmother witnessed was anything but random.
Thrown together, their attraction sizzles, even though she’s squarely in the no-fly zone. She makes him break every rule in his little black book.
Nikki Harper has been attracted to Pete since they met two years ago. Witnessing a brutal shooting throws her into a stigma that’s always been her greatest fear—a victim. She has no choice but to accept his protective custody and let him help save her and her beloved grandmother.
Can Pete protect his witness and solve the case, while fighting the intense heat with Nikki?
